Unique 80th Birthday Gift Ideas

After a lifetime of experiences an 80 year old is not likely to require or even desire the usual DVD’s of old movies or another sweater, bathrobe and slippers.

Thinking about a few unique ideas for an 80 year olds birthday or Christmas gift can be pretty challenging.

After a lifetime of experiences an 80 year old is not likely to require or even desire the usual DVD’s of old movies or another sweater, bathrobe and slippers. They have plenty of photos of everyone and have had plants and flowers up to here. Maybe they just about have everything you can think of so what are to do when their birthday or a holiday come around? I have some idea’s that may just do the trick.

Instead of sending flowers, why don’t you pick up a couple planters and some seeds along with potting soil and go plant flowers together with grandma. Make an afternoon out of it. Spend plenty of time talking and listening. Remember grandma has so much of life experience to share and she would love to share it with you. The time you spend listening will be the best gift of all

Don’t send more pictures of the kids; take the kids to spend a little time with their great grandparents. 8 year olds and 80 year olds have been known to share some wonderful times together that have been a great gift to both of them. Take pictures of them together and have them framed so those memories can be enjoyed over and over again.

If you feel you would rather buy a gift, if possible, take your 80 year old shopping with you so they can pick out what they would really like to have. You can bet the time spent with you will mean so much more then any store bought gift.

If distance keeps you from spending the time with your 80 year old friend or relative, here are some unique gifts that might be appreciated by them.

1. Large print playing cards with tabletop fan-style Card Holders are a great item for a senior that enjoys playing cards.

2. For the 80 year old with a sense of humor have a T-shirt made that say’s something fun like “The older I get the better I was”. Or “This is the oldest I have ever been”.

3. Now, for the wheel chair bound 80 year old, or actually anyone who is wheel chair bound there are some great practical gifts such as a wheel chair cup holder or a wheel chair wallet that attaches to the chair. How about a deluxe Gel-foam cushion for the seat of the chair? It not only provides great comfortable seating but also helps prevent pressure sores.

Remember that your time and attention is always the best gift. However it may not always be possible to be there. So I hope some of the ideas included will be helpful to you when deciding what gift to give your 80 year old.
